T-Mobile UK HTC Desire finally getting Android 2.2 Froyo update

Posted: September 19th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Android | Tags: , , , , , , | No Comments »

HTC Desire

Some users of the HTC Desire began receiving the Froyo (Android 2.2) update at the beginning of August, but not all European carriers were ready to roll it out just yet. One of these was T-Mobile. But the update is on its way, starting today.

From the support forums of T-Mobile’s UK site:

Hi all,

We have some exciting news for all our Desire users.

The 2.2 firmware update (FroYo) will be available from today and will be sent over the air (OTA) direct to your phone over the coming weeks.

Be sure to save all your personal data before you start downloading.

Those of you using a Desire on T-Mobile UK will see the update rolled out shortly. Congrats! [T-Mobile UK via T3Thanks Big Rich!

Another Droid X Froyo update leaks out

Posted: September 12th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Android | Tags: , , , , | No Comments »

 Droid X leaked OTA

Yeah, we’re still waiting on Android 2.2 for the Motorola Droid X. But for those of you who are rooted and don’t mind a little hackery, another leaked OTA (see our hands-on with the first) has appeared at My Droid World. You need to be rooted to get this guy to install, and you’re going to have to use Koush’s bootstrapper. And now would be a good time to remind about the warning Motorola issued after the previous leaked Froyo build — mainly that if you do this, don’t expect help from Moto if a newer OTA actually gets pushed out. But you knew that already, right? Check out the full instructions at the source. [My Droid World via Android Central Forums]

Unrevoked 3.2 available, now works with Froyo [update: It's been pulled]

Posted: September 7th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Android | Tags: , , , , , , , | No Comments »

Unrevoked 3.2

The unrevoked team has announced that version 3.2 is now available for download, and support for Froyo has been added.  This brings the list of devices supported by the flashing tool to:

  • Sprint EVO 4G (HTC Supersonic)
  • Droid Incredible (HTC Incredible)
  • HTC Desire GSM
  • HTC Desire CDMA (HTC BravoC)
  • HTC Aria
  • Droid Eris (HTC DesireC)
  • HTC Wildfire (HTC Buzz)

In addition, users of the Sprint Evo 4G, Droid Incredible, and the CDMA Desire (US Cellular version) can now unlock their NAND and root using the tool.  People using other modern HTC devices not listed above are encouraged to contact the unrevoked team.  Be sure to read the directions carefully, and happy hacking! [unrevoked] Thanks Mike for the tip!

Update: The unlock tool has been temporarily pulled. Says the Unrevoked team: "We’re seeing some strange problems with Unrevoked 3.2, so we’ve pulled the release for a bit. Please hold on! Don’t worry if you’ve already run 3.2 – you are rooted and everything is OK. It’s just a problem for users while running it."

Nexus One gets a new software leak, Froyo version FRG33

Posted: September 3rd, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Android | Tags: , , , , , , | No Comments »

Nexus One with Android 2.2 build FRG33

The Nexus One will never die.  Today we see an new software leak, in the form of a complete packaged ROM (courtesy of Football @ xda) with the FRG33 tag on board.  I haven’t had a chance to load it up just yet, but the few that have say it seems a bit faster, has the new radio that was in the Korean Nexus One launch, but doesn’t have the new Google apps on board.

If you’re feeling adventurous, hit the source link and give it a whirl.  Be sure to let us know how it turns out in the forums! [xda-developers] Thanks, Daniel, for the tip!

New rumor puts Froyo for the Droid Incredible on Sept. 1 (sound familiar?)

Posted: August 25th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Android | Tags: , , , , , , , | No Comments »

 Dinc getting Froyo?

As always, we have no idea when your Droid Incredible will get Froyo, but someone claims to, and they tell Droid Life that Sept. 1 is the new date, and that we’ll see a marketing push ahead of it. (Lest we all forget, somebody recently told Mashable that Aug. 18 was going to be the date, too. And we all know how that worked out.) At this point the only proof I’ll accept to say it’s "confirmed" will be Verizon saying they already rolled it out and brings me an updated phone on a silver platter.  Anyway, to be safe — get things backed up and ready for next week.  And for Pete’s sake if you get an update holler from the rooftops, and let us know! [Droid Life]

[Ed. note: Any time we use the words "Verizon," "update" and "date" in the same sentence, our mothers and lawyers remind us that there's a better than average chance that we'll get through the target day without anything actually happening. Just saying.]

HTC pushing fix for Evo 4G owners who snagged early Froyo build

Posted: August 11th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Android | Tags: , , , , , | No Comments »

Evo 4G updateA heads up from the Android Central Forums: Remember that new update HTC promised for those of us who updated our Evo 4Gs a tad early with an "unofficial" build? The new update — build 3.26.651.6 — is being pushed out as we speak. It’s just 4.17 megabytes and takes just a couple of minutes to download and install, and you’ll find yourself "back on track" with all of your more patient friends.

Here’s the official word from Sprint, if you’re into that sort of thing.

So less than two weeks from leaked build to official build to an update for the early adopters. Pretty snappy on HTC’s part, we’d say, and it t’was more than neighborly of them to take care of things. [Android Central Forums] Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

myTouch 3G Slide maintenance update (not Froyo) starts Wednesday

Posted: August 4th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Android | Tags: , , , , , , | No Comments »

T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide

Those of you rocking a T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide, know this: A maintenance update — as in NOT Android 2.2 — is headed your way starting Aug. 4. Here’s what you have to look forward to, from T-Mobile’s mouths to our eyes:

  • Updates to the T-Mobile online contact backup connection, which will improve battery life.
  • Ability to send text messages while connected to WiFi.
  • Genius button improvements: Ability to toggle GPS by voice, announce caller ID for incoming calls and allow answer or ignore, announce incoming text messages.
  • Faves icon displayed next to notifications while device is locked.
  • Overall speed and stability improvements.

T-Mobile says the update will be complete by Aug. 19, and it won’t be able to push it out after that. So get it while you can. [T-Mobile forumsThanks to everyone who sent this in!
