The New Nokia C6 – a 5800 in New Clothing

With a heritage that is clearly Nokia 5800 XpressMusic released in November 2008, the new Nokia C6 looks like the 5800 that has grown a full-QWERTY slider keyboard. It is the first touchscreen QWERTY smartphone under the Finnish mobile phone maker’s C-range and is pitched to cover a wider market for its recent C line-up

If you feel uneasy with touchscreens but love its specs, the C6 with its QWERTY keyboard may be the right solution. The new Nokia C6 rehashes most of the same technology and features in its successful Nokia 5800, including aesthetic styling. There is a great range of Nokia C6 contracts across the internet. The only difference is the half QWERTY slider, gaining more weight and girth along the way.

It sports the same 3.2-inch TFT LCD resistive touchscreen with the same 640 x 360 resolution and 16 millions colors. Multimedia entertainment is no different with an RDS stereo FM radio, media players for the popular audio and video files, a 3.5mm audio jack and A2DP profile support for wireless stereo listening. But imaging goes into N97 domain with a 5 megapixel autofocus camera that has LED flash, geo tagging, face/smile detection and VGA video recording at 30fps. There’s also a secondary 3G videocall camera.

Under the hood is the same 434 MHz ARM11 CPU used on both the 5800 and runs the same Symbian OS v9.4 with S60 Rel 5.0 UI. Onboard memory, gets boosted to 240 MB with microSD expandability up to 16 GB. Its 1200 mAh li-ion battery delivers talk times of up to 7 hours on 2G, 483 hours on standby and 30 hours on music playback.

The Nokia C6 has a wealth of radio and data connectivity options starting with quad band radios on both UMTS on 3G and GSM on 2G. Data connectivity gets class 32 GPRS/EDGE on 2G and HSDPA at 3.6 Mbps and HSUPA at 2 Mbps on 3G.
There’s WiFi 802.11b/g for hotspots while local data transfers get Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP and microUSB 2.0.
